Need Any Help ?

A child or teenager struggling with addiction or a mental health condition does not need to be treated like a smaller version of an adult. They need a programme built specifically around how adolescents think, feel, and respond to treatment, and a clinical team trained to work with this age group.
If you are a parent reading this page, you may be carrying fear, confusion, guilt, or all three at once. That is a normal response to an abnormal situation, and it does not mean you have failed as a parent. What matters now is getting your child the right help, quickly and discreetly.
At Federal City Rehab Clinic, we provide a dedicated Youth and Adolescent Program in Islamabad for young people facing substance use, anxiety, depression, behavioural difficulties, and the pressures of school, identity, and family life. Treatment is delivered with complete confidentiality, age-appropriate clinical methods, and close family involvement throughout.
Whatever stage this has reached. Whatever has already been tried. Recovery and stability are possible, and FCRC is here to help your family reach them.
Understanding Adolescent Addiction and Mental Health Struggles
Adolescence is a period of significant brain development, particularly in the regions responsible for impulse control, judgement, and emotional regulation. According to the World Health Organization, half of all mental health conditions begin by age 14, and most go undetected and untreated. This same developmental window also makes adolescents more vulnerable to substance use, since the teenage brain responds differently to drugs and alcohol than the adult brain does, and dependency can develop faster.
In Pakistan, the pressures facing young people are intensifying. Academic competition, social media exposure, shifting family structures, and easier access to substances have all contributed to a rise in adolescent mental health concerns and early substance use. Many families do not recognise the warning signs until a crisis forces the issue into the open.
It is important for parents to understand that adolescent struggles, whether substance use, self-harm, severe anxiety, or behavioural breakdown, are not simply a phase, a discipline problem, or a reflection of bad parenting. These are clinical conditions that respond to proper treatment.
Signs Your Child or Teenager May Need Professional Help
Many parents sense that something is wrong before they can name it. The following are clinically recognised indicators that professional assessment is needed.
- Sudden changes in mood, energy, or personality that persist for weeks rather than days.
- Withdrawal from family, friends, or activities the young person previously enjoyed.
- A noticeable drop in academic performance or refusal to attend school.
- Secretive behaviour, new and unexplained friend groups, or unexplained absences.
- Physical signs of substance use, or money and belongings going missing from the home.
- Talk of hopelessness, worthlessness, or any mention of self-harm.
- Extreme irritability, defiance, or aggression that feels out of character.
If any of these patterns are present, professional assessment is strongly recommended. FCRC’s clinical team is available for a confidential consultation with parents at any time.
Why Adolescent Treatment Requires a Different Approach
This point matters more than most parents realise. Treating a teenager the way an adult treatment programme would is rarely effective, and can sometimes do harm.
The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry notes that adolescents respond best to treatment that involves family participation, addresses developmental and educational needs alongside the clinical condition, and uses communication styles suited to a still-developing brain rather than adult-oriented therapy models. Treating a young person in isolation from their family system, or using language and methods designed for adults, frequently leads to disengagement and poor outcomes.
Attempting to manage a serious adolescent mental health or substance use issue without specialised support, hoping it resolves with time, is a genuine risk to the young person’s safety and development. Professional, age-appropriate care is not an overreaction. It is the responsible response.
At FCRC, our Youth and Adolescent Program is delivered by clinicians experienced specifically in adolescent development. Every treatment plan involves the family, respects the young person’s dignity and privacy, and is paced to their individual readiness for change.

how we work ?
Our Youth and Adolescent Program in Islamabad, Pakistan
FCRC’s Youth and Adolescent Program follows a structured, age-appropriate pathway, personalised to every young person’s developmental stage, family situation, and clinical needs.
01
Comprehensive Assessment with the Family
Every treatment journey begins with a thorough assessment involving both the young person and their parents or guardians. This covers the adolescent’s emotional history, academic and social functioning, any substance use, family dynamics, and the specific concerns that brought the family to FCRC.
Adolescent issues are rarely isolated from the family system. Our assessment looks at the full picture, ensuring the treatment plan addresses the young person’s needs within the context of their home life.
02
Age-Appropriate Stabilisation
Where substance use or an acute mental health crisis is present, the young person is first stabilised under appropriate medical and clinical supervision. Methods, language, and pacing are adapted specifically for adolescents rather than adapted down from adult protocols.
Where clinically indicated, our team works alongside FCRC’s psychiatric specialists to manage any co-occurring conditions safely from day one.
03
Individual and Group Therapy for Young People
Following stabilisation, the young person engages in FCRC’s adolescent therapeutic programme, delivered by clinicians experienced in this age group.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps young people identify the thought patterns and triggers behind their struggles.
Motivational Interviewing builds internal motivation for change in a way that respects the adolescent’s growing autonomy.
Group therapy with peers provides connection and reduces the isolation many young people feel.
Trauma-informed therapy addresses underlying experiences, bullying, loss, family conflict, or other distress, where relevant.
Life skills and emotional regulation work builds practical tools for managing stress, identity, and relationships going forward.
04
Psychiatric Assessment and Dual Diagnosis Care
Adolescent substance use and mental health conditions are deeply interconnected. Anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma-related conditions are all significantly more common among young people who develop substance use issues, and in many cases an untreated condition is the underlying driver.
According to SAMHSA, co-occurring conditions in young people must be identified and treated together for either to be effectively managed. At FCRC, every young person receives a comprehensive psychiatric assessment, and co-occurring conditions are treated within the same integrated programme.
05
Family Therapy and Parent Guidance
A young person’s recovery is inseparable from their family environment. At FCRC, parents and family members are not observers in the treatment process, they are active participants.
Our family therapy programme helps parents understand what their child is experiencing, rebuild trust and communication, establish healthy and consistent boundaries, and learn how to support recovery once treatment ends. For most young people, a stable and informed family is the strongest protective factor against relapse.
06
Educational Continuity and Aftercare Planning
Before any young person completes the programme, FCRC’s team works with the family to plan for re-entry into school and daily life, including coordination with educators where appropriate and useful. A structured relapse prevention and aftercare plan is prepared for every patient.
The FCRC team remains available to families for follow-up support, guidance, and re-assessment after the programme ends. Our relationship with families does not end on the last day of treatment.
Inpatient and Outpatient Options
FCRC offers youth and adolescent treatment through both residential and structured outpatient formats, depending on clinical need.
Inpatient Residential Treatment
is recommended for more severe cases, particularly where safety, intensive stabilisation, or removal from a harmful environment is clinically necessary. Young people receive care within FCRC’s Bani Gala facility, in a setting kept separate and age-appropriate, with a structured daily programme of therapy, education support, and family involvement.
Outpatient Support
is available for younger patients or lower-severity cases where a strong, supportive home environment is in place, or as a step-down pathway following a residential programme. Our clinical team will recommend the most appropriate option following the initial assessment.

Will my child's treatment be kept confidential from school or extended family?
Yes. No information about any patient is ever shared without explicit written consent from the parent or guardian. Families may enquire confidentially before making any decision.
Is family involvement required during treatment?
Family involvement is a core part of the programme and strongly encouraged, as outcomes are significantly better when parents and guardians participate in family therapy alongside their child.
Does FCRC treat mental health conditions alongside adolescent substance use?
Yes. FCRC provides integrated dual diagnosis care, identifying and treating co-occurring mental health conditions alongside any substance use within a single programme.
How long does the Youth and Adolescent Program take?
Programme duration depends on clinical assessment and the severity of the young person’s condition. Both residential and outpatient pathways are available, with a structured aftercare plan provided to every family at completion.
